Final Piece
Ideas
For my final piece I have a few ideas of what I want to do but I am not sure which one to do yet. I want the main focus to be my photographs, obviously, but since I am doing narrative work of a book I think there needs to be something extra to go along with it just to clarify what is going on in said photographs.
The first idea I have is kind of hard to explain. I thought of having a little flat piece of wood, painting them a colour that I think matches the scene I am doing (e.g. -Victoria Baths/Hospital shoot = Red/blood or Running Away = Purple/dramatic) and sticking down some object that are from those scenes, for the hospital shoot I would put some fake blood in small tubes and maybe some empty pill packets, things like that. I am not sure how to incorporate the photos into this idea though.

The picture is my attempt at showing what I meant by the above piece of text, although my lacking artistic skills may not have cleared things up at all.
My second idea would be to pick the best outcomes from each shoot and stick them in a black sketchbook, I prefer black because its easier to look at the photos when the background is a dark colour. I could add in little excerpts from the book, similar to how I have done it on my website, sort of like a more 'professional' or presented version. The excerpts could be written on objects that have something to do with that scene, for example the part at the train station could have the extracts written onto train tickets or the hospital one could be on bandages. I could add chapter numbers to show the beginning and end of each stage of Maras life and the different scenes of the book. The positive of this one is that its obviously easier to include the photos in comparison to the last one and it will be focused more on them as well. Some pictures below demonstrate what I mean.
Decision
In the end I decided to go with the second idea but changed slightly. I thought about printing out the text like the original plan but the paper looked a bit weird against the black card background of the sketchbook and it ruined the effect of the photos. For the ones where I was writing on objects (train tickets, bandage) was proving hard to stick down, the train tickets and paper objects were easy but when I tried to stick the bandages the glue just came through and it looked messy.
I decided to use the sketchbook because it is a book layout, since this project is about depicting a book, I thought this would be appropriate. I used the black coloured card because it helps the photos to stand out more. I thought about printing out the extracts from the book but I think the white pen looks more aesthetic on the black card than a piece of paper stuck down would.
I made some of the words messy to emulate how unstructured Maras life became and I wrote down some songs that I think would fit with the book and my pictures. One is 'Lurk' by The Neighbourhood and one is called 'Unknown' which was actually written by me during my GCSE Music course. I put a summary at the start of each 'chapter' just to give more information on what is happening.

I am happy with my final piece, it is simple but effective. The pictures and the layout work together to create a book style layout which is perfect for the theme of my coursework. I am glad I went with this idea and not any others, I think they might have been too much and I like the focus of my work to be my photos, overcomplicating things would have taken the focus away from my photos and also would have made it harder for me to finish my project.
Overall, I believe this is a nice finish to my project, it summarises everything that has happened and collects it in a simple but aesthetic layout.
